Description
The analyzer uses the phenomenon of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Analytical application of the NMR method for the simultaneous measurement of oiliness and moisture is based on the dependence of the amplitude of the NMR signals on the content of water and oil in the analyzed sample and the difference in the relaxation times of the protons of these components.
The analyzer includes a magnetic system made on the basis of an electromagnet and ensures the creation of a highly stable permanent polarizing magnetic field. In the gap of the magnetic system there is a sensor of NMR signals, which contains the analyzed sample. The sensor of NMR signals is designed for the example of pulses of the radio frequency field of resonance frequency and reception of signals created by the spin system of protons of the analyzed sample. Amplification of NMR signals to the required amplitude and its conversion into a digital code is carried out using special analyzer units (amplifier of NMR signals and amplitude-to-digital converter). The received information about the amplitude of the NMR signals is digitally fed to a computing device, such as a personal computer, to which an electronic balance is connected to measure the mass of the sample being analyzed. Based on the measured amplitudes of NMR signals of water and oil protons, using calibration equations and the mass of the analyzed sample, the moisture and oiliness values are calculated.
